2001 Ford Mondeo Engine stalls / choking

My ford mondeo always stall during cold start. The engine sound like its choking. Another symptom is the the engine making rattling sound.

Kindly advise the problem and solution.

if this is a diesel mondeo ... replace the glow plugs !
