1977 Ford LTD Shifting

My C4 trans is shifting from 2nd to 3rd at 55mph when I first start driving. Will get better as I stop and start again (goes from 2nd to 3rd at 35). Trans shop said it needs a rebuild. Any ideas?

sounds like your valve is sticking. If your fluid id dark brown or brown they are probably right.
