Electrical problem
1969 Ford Galaxie V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My son has a '69 Galaxie 500 - he had a dead battery after school one evening so we started with a new battery, additional body ground, then on to an alternator, then voltage regulator, next a starter and solenoid and wires. I'm not really an auto mechanic - just a glorified parts changer. But being his mom I just cant leave it alone I want to fix it for him. It's an ego thing I think- got any suggestions?

First, use a voltmeter to test charge at battery posts, should be 13.8-14.8 volts with engine running, if not, and you've replaced the cables? Check the three smaller wires at the solenoid, these are fusible links and if they melt internally, it wont charge. Use a test light grounded to the negative battery post, probe B4 and after the "bump" in the links. Light should light at both spots.
