2004 Ford Freestar is it transmission or front axle?

Got a new transmission put in 3 months ago. Was out recently driving car, tried to put it into reverse and car would not go into gear. Could not get it into any gear. Repairman at transmission place says it's the front axle. There were no symptoms of anything wrong prior to this. Is he telling the truth?

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated If an axle has popped out or broken the vehicle will not move and display symptoms of a transmission fault .. so he could be telling the truth !! Hope this helps
