Engine Idle

I have a 2002 Ford Focus with a 4cyl/2 litre engine and about 70,000 miles on it. It idles very rough in the morning and can take up to a half an hour to throttle back. The mechanic cleaned a lot of carbon deposits out of the throttle plates, but it did not solve the problem. I need to take it back next week, but would like some idea of where we should be looking. I've had a couple suggestions to check the PVC tube for a vaccuum leak and the air control valve. Those sound like good starts, but if anyone has any other suggestions, I would appreciate them.

You said that the mechanic removed a lot of carbon deposits out of throttle plates. Have him check the pcv valve to see if it too is carboned up. He can also check the throttle body for carbon. Check the throttle controls to see if they are working properly.

Cleaning the throttle body should have helped out alot but I have a ford as does my brother and his fiance ALL have needed the Idle Air Control valve replaced because of the same issue. Not to hard or expensive to replace yourself but would cost you at least $100 if done by mechanic.
