2003 Ford Focus Fuel cap?

I have a 2003 ford focus zx5. My problem is when I try to turn my car on I keep getting a message that says, check fuel cap. I try removing the cap nd then putting it back on untill I here 4 clicks. I still get the same message. What can I do?

Change the fuel cap. The gas tank vents through the fuel cap. A failing fuel cap vent can be dangerous. Pressure is building up inside of your gas tank and setting off the trouble light.
