2002 Ford Focus Speedometer

2002 Ford Focus 4 cyl Manual 165,00 miles

For sometime now the speedometer will go down to zero n the mileage disappers. Still drove okay. This time it was different. I was driving 60 - 65 mph then it jumps clear over to 120-140 mph. When it did that I couldn't get no speed stepping on the accelerator and I could feel the speed going down. No engine light came on and the car did not turn off. What could be causing this? Is it major?

Need to go to Auto zone have codes read. Possible faulty VSS vehicle speed sensor. Post code will advise.
