i blew a head gasket. How much typically do mechanics charge for that?

Hi There,

This will depend on how much damage has been done when the head gasket failed, often you don't know exactly what the full extent of the damage is until it is dismantled. the only way to know is to have the head removed and all part examined, for instance if the head is cracked there will be an additional charge to repair & re machine, and this is just unknown until the head is removed.
