how do you gat the brake drum off a 2002 Ford focus

Hi:
You will need to turn the self adjuster so the brakes close. You can get to them through the backing plate. There is a rubber plug that you pop out and then you'll have access to the self adjuster.

What happens, is as your brakes wear, the self adjuster opens the shoes so they continue to work. Also, the drum wears where the shoe hits it causing a small lip to develope on the outside edge of the drum that isn't touched. Your shoes are hitting that ridge and stopping drum removal. By closing the drum, the shoes are able to miss the ridge and the drum will come off.
