What will happen if you put 84 octane in a car that is not meant to have anything lower than 86?

Hi clayjunkie33,

The engine tends to ping under load which will be taken care off by the knock sensor but it might cause the check light to come on. Engine ignition timing will be retarded by the ECM so you will have lesser power on tap.

Other than that there is not much of a problem.
