Engine is a multipoint fuel injection 16valve petrol 1.25 litre (zetec)
It misfires and runs rich at low revs - up to 3200rpm above which it suddenly runs cleanly. It is consistent (not changed by engine temp or weather conditions). I have changed air filter, the MAF sensor and checked operation of the Throttle Position Sensor (resistance increases steadily as you turn the pot). The compression is 185psi on all cylinders. I have looked for obvious airleaks but not found any. I have cleaned the O2 sensor. What is the likely cause(s)?

Misfiring can be caused by worn or fouled spark plugs, a weak spark (weak coil, bad spark plug wire), loss of compression, vacuum leaks, anything that causes an unusually lean fuel mixture (lean misfire), an EGR valve that is stuck open, dirty fuel injectors, low fuel pressure, or even bad fuel.

Thanks for your reply, but why at exactly 3,200 does it run perfectly. I would have expected it to "clear" at some variable higher rpm value depending on conditions?

Recheck the TPS and also check the fuel pressure/coil/s primary and secondary winding resistances to include the CPS
