1999 Ford Festiva stalling

Engine stalls when stationary. Runs perfectly in cruise.
Total cut out but occasionally catches and runs again.
Seems worse when stationary and foot brake on.
Have had distributor checked and plug wires, now ok
one was replaced. Only seems to do it after engine reaches running temp. (plug lead replaced did not cure the prob. Mechanic suggests ECU might be the prob.
Cant this be tested.

Check your idle air control (IAC) valve. It may just have to be cleaned.
