1990 Ford Festiva rear hatch

The rear hatch is stuck. Closed it and now it will not open by the rear release. Is there a way to access the latch and open it?

Take off the inerior panel and you can access the latch from the inside. One of the linkages probably came loose. Or maybe the hatch is locked?
