I have two Festivas. One is a 1991 with a 5 speed transmission. The other is a 1989 with a 4 speed transmissin. Other than the "normal" work of transmission removal and replacement, is there anything I should be aware of if trying to switch these transmissions? I want to end up with the 1989 with a 5 speed because it is a better car overall than the 1991. Thanks

Hi there,

You will need to check the position of transmission mounts, loom plugs, length of drive shafts, gear selectors. There may be other hidden hiccups along the way as well.

They are exactly the same transmissions (externally). The 5-speed just has an extra gear on the inside. You should have no problems doing this.
