What to check next

Have the ignition system inspected under the conditions that reproduce the fault, including the cap and leads, before replacing the distributor pickup. Keep hands and tools away from live ignition components and moving parts.

Discussion summary

wet weather ford

A 1980 Ford Fairmont 3.3L ran poorly in cold, damp weather but improved after warming up. The owner had already replaced ignition wires, distributor cap, plugs and module.

Reported outcome: No confirmed cause or repair outcome was reported.

Replies suggested cap damage and ignition arcing. The discussion does not confirm either, and the suggested petroleum-jelly and spray treatments are not included as verified repair guidance.
