1965 Ford Fairlane Gas and Temp gauges

Can you give me some idea why my gas and temp gauges peg out when I turn on the headlamp switch? They appear to work fine until the wsitch is turned on.

There is a short, does it happen when you put on your parking lights? If so check the wiring in the trunk for pinched or broken wire. If not look under the dash on the right side and check the wires going to the constant voltage regulator. See if there is a burnt wire or frail wire.
