Drive Train Axles Bearings problem
2006 Ford F350 V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

This truck has auto 4 wheel dive switch in the cab. The hubs can be turned to auto or locking. I wasn't sure what position the hubs needed to be or what the purpose was. Can you help?

Auto means the axle is in free wheel until you select 4 wheel then ford uses vacum to engage the lockout. The lock position means the lockout is engaged at all times thus turning the axle shaft and front drive shaft which makes for less fuel milage
