I just replaced the right front hub on my truck and noticed that the grove on the shaft that the snap ring goes on is very shallow. When I was removing the old hub, the snap ring was completely off. Is there anything that I could do to prevent the snap ring comming off again? It seem pretty flemsy way to hold that shaft from moving in and out the hub.

I would suggest you use a new ring, so you know it's not deformed and hasn't lost any of it's "springiness".

that and make sure the groove is very clean so the ring can fit positively in it and not resting on any grit.
