1987 Ford Diesel 6.9L I have to use starter fluid to get it going. After it is started it runs fine. If I start it again the next day it will start. If I wait 3 weeks and try to start it, it will start for and run for about 10-15 sec and quit and won't start again unless I use starter fluid. I know I don't want to use starter fluid everytime I go and start it. Do you have any suggestions on what might be wrong. It has this same symtoms whether its cold or hot out.

I have a friend having the same problem and it's electrical except his will not run unless it is plugged into the block. I would have a Diagnostic test done. Good luck.
