I bought a 72 Ford F250, Camper Special last summer and when connecting a trailer wire harness up we found that someone spliced into the ignition resistance wire. This wire starts at the ignition switch, goes to a firewall connector, then in the coil.
By splicing into the wire, the wire apparently became very hot and melted through the insulation and cab wire harness.
I picked up a new resistance wire from NAPA but the connectors do not match mine. It is our understanding that we cannot cut, splice or solder into these wires. Would it be ok to cut the old wire out, several inches from each end, add connectors that match the new wire and use this wire. Or should we get a cab wire harness from a salvage yard?
