91 ford f-150, went fromE40d tranny to a t18 4 speed, cant figure out why motor is run bad hope to find out why! I was told to advance the timing, would that help?

By running bad, what do you mean? Running smoothly yet with no power, or bucking and hesitating? Stalling?

The E4OD tranny is controlled by the PCM, and it could be throwing fits since you don't have it hooked up anymore.
