Service engine soon light

2002 F150 V-6 96000 mi. Service engine soon light keeps comming on. I have disconnected the battery and when it is re connected it will stay off for a short period of time. I have chaned the fuel filter and the gas cap but the problem continues. Could this be a sensor problem? If so where are they located and how diffcult are they to change. Thanks Richard H
