Fuel Pressure Regulator Problem?

1994 F150 210K 302ci. A noisy but functional fuel pump in front tank was replaced (by me). After installed, It did not work when I flipped the switch to the front tank. It ran only while using the rear tank (in which I replaced the pump 2 month earlier). As I drove, fuel was pumped from my rear tank to my front tank. I was running out of gas while my front tank was filling up! I thought the two lines to the pump were different sizes and that I couldn't have switched them. This was not a problem before. I pulled the bad pump from the tank and checked to see if it had a short circuit. It show to be ok. Could it be a fuse? The pump and tank are removed as I wait on the replacement. Why did the fuel get pumped into the tank with the bad pump? How do I avoid this with the new replacement pump? Can I drive my truck with the front tank removed, using only the rear tank? Jerry

Your truck's problem is it has one of fords most useless inventions on it. It is a dual fuel tank selector valve, it is no good so it is causing the fuel to pump from one into the others. You can bypass one tank if you would like or you can redo the whole fuel system.
