Ford Ranger Clutch

Hi guys,

I have a 1992 Ford Ranger with 150,000 miles.
I don't drive it too very much. Maybe a few times per month for short distances.

Last month I started noticing the clutch (I think) making a whistling or shrill noise that seemed to be in sync when I accelerated.

Yesterday, a friend borrowed the truck and now the clutch does not work at all.

When started and put into gear, the truck will not move. It is as the truck is in neutral. The clutch still feels the same, but it does not engage. Again, it is as the truck is constantly in neutral.

Any suggestions for me?

Thanks for this wonderful forum! I'll pass it on to all my friends.

Gina :)

Check the clutch master cylinder. Small for fluid level. Or pull the boot off the top of the tranny hump and check the bolts!

Thanks.

My elderly dad and I checked the clutch reservoir and it was almost full.

When you say "pull the boot off the top of the tranny hump and check the bolts!" I'm not sure what that means. Are you talking about inside of the cab of the truck? The shifter boot?

The truck still starts right up fine. But when put into a gear it won't move. Acts like it is just in neutral.

Thanks :)

Hi,
Here is a follow up of what happened since I asked my question.

I took it to a mechanic and it turned out to be "the input shaft to the transmission is broken".

Sadly now, I have to have a rebuilt transmission put in.

Thanks for all the help. It is being repaired as I type this.
