I have a 1993 Ford F-150 the front tank works but the rear tank has not worked in 3 years .. the other day gas filled up the back tank and is now leaking out of the back tank... The truck has the 4.9l motor..
I am thinking a new back tank a fuel pump.. But I was wondering if it is possible to unhhok the rear tank and just run the fuel feed and return line to the front fuel pump only and just have a on tank system or do I have to go buy a back tank, fuel pump, switching valve thing... and all that... I can get a tank and pump at a junk yard for about a $100.. But I dont think this is the whole problem... As it did not leak gas out the back tank for 3 years it just started doing it recently...

Is it just a gas leak? Hole in the tank, or are you saying a fuel line?

No it was pouring gas from the front tank to the rear tank. Last night I changed out the rear fuel pump in the back tank. So now I can just flip flop[ the switch on the tanks when I run out. About 130000 of these trucks were recalled for this but ford said my vin number did not qualify, but I still have the problem that 130000 other people did. Maybe when I blow up my truck and people get injured maybe my VIN will qualify.

I had the same prolem in my 87 f150 the back tank went at the seam so I went under cut the rear lines and plugged by shoving a bolt in them and a hose clamp on each for good measure but after you do that pull the fuse for the rear tank because that crossover switch will fail so if you pull the fuse the truck will only run off the front tank no matter what
