F-150 battery

F150 2003 4.6L king cab


I had have a problem driving home it sounded like a belt broke then my battery light came on I disconnect the battery and the truck died. So I change out the alternator and I disconnect the battery again and the truck died again. The alternator is new and the battery light is still on. The voltage is been holding steady at 12.38 v. Can anybody help me

The Charging voltage must be between 13.8 and 14.8 volts. IF less than 12.66 volts the alternater is bad or connection problem. I have seen a ton of "out of the box" alternaters and starters be no good from the get go.
