Hey guys, Im confused. I have a 1997 Ford F150 with 99,600 miles on it. I used it earlier this morning I had no problem. I went to use it like 10-11 hours later I had a knock in my motor. The more I give it gas the more it knocks and the louder it does. I had no signs of it starting, it just happened. It has oil in it, I dont know. Can you Help. I have a 4.2 litre engine. I am looking it says it can be the egr valve. I have been getting unusual amount steam in the mornings with high humidity coming from the exhaust. Other mornings its fine.?

Usually when you engine starts knocking and gets louder as you give it gas your problem lies internally in the engine, probably a rod bearing. Does it sound like a metal to metal knocking? If so then 10 to 1 its a rod bearing. If a rod bearing goes out you will have no warning at all, it will just happen all of the sudden. You would probably be able to find a good used motor in a salvage yard at a cheaper price than to have the bearing replaced or that is true in a lot of cases. You need to have checked out and shop around before you pay for anything.
