Electrical problem

I have a 1993 Ford F150, V8, manual transmission, 202,000 miles.

I put a new starter on the truck just a few weeks ago and when I did, I had to splice the wiring to connect the new starter (the old stuff was brittle and breaking). However, I have not been able to get the truck started since. I get everything hooked up, turn the key and there is a click, then I lose all electric (like I am tripping off a circuit). I unhook the battery, try it again and the same thing. I am pretty sure everything is hooked up properly and that my splices were done properly, but alas, I know there is an electrical problem I am missing in there somewhere.

Of course, I am a novice. Any advice or possible solutions?

Sounds like the battery is dead. If it is not dead I would replace the wires from battery to the starter and it should fire right up. Splicing loose battery current. But I would try a new battery first or jumping it if it starts then your problem lies in the battery if not it lies in the starter.
