What to check next

Diagnostic guidance. Suggested checks and possible repairs are separate from the owner's reported results.

Have the intermittent warning diagnosed under the conditions that bring it on. Provide the earlier code if available and ask for testing of the EGR system before authorizing replacement.

I have the old style code reader and at one time a few months ago,it showed that there may be something wrong with the EGR so I cleaned the EGR and now nothing shows up, also I have a new air filter installed every time that I have the oil changed (every three months), I purchased this van new in 88 and only have 47,000 miles on it. maybe it doesn't get ran enough.
Thanks for the reply

Discussion summary

E150 Check Engine Light

A 1988 Ford E-150 illuminated its check-engine light under load but not at idle. The owner had previously obtained an EGR-related indication, cleaned the EGR valve and later found no codes with the available reader.

Reported outcome: No confirmed cause or successful repair was reported.

The exact earlier code and EGR test results were not supplied. Cleaning the valve and finding no later code did not establish why the warning returned under load.
