2005 Ford F-150 How BIG?

I have a stock 2005 ford F150 with 17 inch wheels. I am wondering if I could put Larger tires and my truck as it is or do I need a lift. What Size or sizes would you recomend.

Would a size or two smaller make more sense like 31 inch. And if it was 31 inches, what would the actual size of the tire need to be to fit the stock 17inch rims. Would it effect the other parts on the truck if I did make this change.

the tires would have to be 17 inch also. it could effect the speedometer ,could effect the transmission . better check with ford to find out exactly what could be damaged by this mod
