When I turn on the AC unit it will blow cold air.
When I turn the speed setting past the 2nd setting there is this loud clattering sound like a base ball card in the spokes of a bicycle.

What do you think the problem could be and do you have any suggestions for repair?

sounds like your blower motor is starting to go or it may be rubbing on something, take it out and have it looked at.
