I am having a problem with the gear shift lever mounted on the steering column. When I press on the brake pedal the lever does not always unlock. On many occasions I am pressing on the pedal either harder or multiple time before the lever unlocks. I have noticed in the past week that if I can hear a click when pressing the brakes the lever is unlocked. If no click the lever is still locked. What could this be. Thank you for your help.

Your concern may be one of two things. Either it is the brake position switch located on the brake pedal, or it is the shift interlock solenoid. When it does not work, test for voltage on both pins of the brake switch. You can also check the brake lights, but I believe that the 04 had nore than one brake switch on it. If you have voltage at the switch you need to check voltage at the solenoid with the brake applied. If you don't have voltage, look for a short. If you do have voltage replace the shift interlock solenoid. The most common failure is the switch. If you have any other question, feel free to ask.
