Purchased truck with standard transmission but dash has no tachometer. Truck is in very good condition and quiet so much that it is hard to hear the engine as I start out and have almost stalled it. My question is which pin on the PCM should I hook up the tach wire to? I did hook to pin #48 but it doesn't work. I of course hooked up the hot and ground wires.

I'm not very familiar with the newer F-150s, are you sure it's supposed to be connected to the PCM, most tachometers are connected to the ignition coil wiring harness. Double check the installation instructions.
