Ford F150 has intermittent hard start. Takes 3-4 secs to start and finally ignition it is rough. Has clean injectors, regular maintenance, new wires, and fuel filter. Ohmed the coil. Im affraid the pump is bad. Could the relay cause it, and does it initiate a check engine light?

Hi:
The fuel pump can set a random misfire code in the computer. Have you checked it for codes? Also, have you replaced the plugs in addition the the wires?

I would suggest testing fuel pump pressure/ Many part stores will lend or rent the gauge. Here is a video showing how if you have never done it before.

Let me know if this helps.

The plugs have 15,000 on them, I will test the pressure and check the codes. I hear the pump getting power when I turn the key, and being an intermittent problem what is the likely hood of a sensor like the cam shaft pos sensor?

Hi:
It could be a sensor. I'm hoping that if it is, there will be a code. Trying to find problems like this can be a pain. The only thing we can do is try one thing at a time.
