I have noticed in cold weather when I first start my truck it has very little oil pressure. After it warms up a bit the pressure jumps up to normal for a few seconds then back to almost nothing and then will jump up to normal and stay there. This did not happen in normal temps (10 degrees and above).

The oil I am using is 10w - 30. Is that to heavy an oil for the sub zero temps.

Thanks.

Yes and that may have contributed to other problems as well. The recommended oil weight for the vehicle is 5w30. Using the heavier oil may have done more harm than good. Change the oil and put in the correct oil and post back if this helps or not.

I replaced the 10w30 with 5w30 and the problem has been significantly reduced. Now when it is cold the oil pressure gage shows pressure from the initial start and occasionally bounces down but only for a second or two until the vehicle is warmed up.

You may want to have a manual oil pressure gauge put on the vehicle to test it. You may still have an issue or it may simply be the oil pressure switch. But it would definetly be worth knowing.
