The shift interlock wont let you shift from park unless the brake pedal is depressed. If it is malfunctioning, the quick bypass is to turn the key almost to "off" and shift to neutral before starting the truck.
I think the switch is the same as the brake light switch on your brake pedal bar. Have you noticed your brake lights acting funny?
