2001 Ford F150 Battery Not charging

I have a 01 F 150 Supercrew 4x4 and two days ago my battery light came on. In the manual is said that the battery is not charging back up. The battery is about a year old. I think it may be my alternator but I wanted to make sure that it may not be something simple and easy to fix before I replace the alternator. Any suggestions before I buy a new alternator??
