Noises problem
1999 Ford F150 V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

valves rattle when you start the truck. It then rattles every time it shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. It sounds like timing is too far advanced. Would it be a senser, also you here a knock by no-1 that sounds like wrist-pin or connecting rod. Milage is 235 k. Burns 1 litre of oil in 2 k.

Has the check engine light come on? Do the valves only rattle at start up? Also, are you using a quality fuel?

Valves rattle at start=up. Fuel is regular. Also they rattle when it is shifting from 1st to 3rd. Also when cruising at 110 kph does not kick into passing gear.I have not checked any hoses or sensors. It is 120.00 to put on computer at our garages here and engine light is on. Went on 1 year ago when running daylight sensor shorted out. Disconnected sensor because price was 137. Oo for sensor which is ridiculas. Also thank-you for your quick reply. Gord

If the rattle seems to be as you described, my first guess is a knock sensor. However, without having the computer scanned, that is a guess.

One time, you may want to try better gas. It may help. Also, since they charge so much to have it scanned, you should purchase an OBDII scanner. The basic ones are around 60.00.
