my heating sysytem is not working. I have no circulation of water in the radiator and the hose going from engine to radiator resovoir is flat. Could that hose be part of problem?

Yes that would be a problem! The lower radiator hose has a spring inside it to keep it from doing just that! Replace all hoses and do a flush too. Lower hose feeds the engie, upper hose comes from the engine to the radiator to be cooled.
