Engine Performance problem
1999 Ford F150 V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 95'000 miles
Hi. I bought a 1999 Ford f150 with the 5.4 triton motor. after buying it from a used car dealer I noticed a low rpm miss in the motor. It has 95000 miles on it . so I figured it was time for a tune up. I took it in to a garage that specializes in tune ups. well the Triton motor has special plugs and costly to get changed. So I had the plugs changed and everything checked out. They also replaced one coil that was not putting out the proper amps and had the fuel filter replaced with a new one. the next day when driving the truck I noticed it still had a miss in it. Taking it back to the place that did the work on it.They explained that nothing showed up on their equipment as to what the miss could be.. They then checked the amp output on the fuel pump, thinking maybe it was a bad fuel pump and the miss may be gas intake related. They checked that by measuring the amp and it checked out with proper amps. stating that the fuel pump checked out. They stated that there was not much they could do unless the check engine light would come on. Which it does not come on. However I still have the miss. To explain the miss, when idling it will sometimes idle roughly for just a few seconds and then smooth out again. as when I am stopped at a stop sign. When starting out from a dead stop there is a little missing or I'll call it chugging that happens, which is gone and smooths out after I get going about 5 mph or the rpms get higher. I do not notice any miss or chugging at higher rpms. I will notice a couple "chugs" again when I am cruising in town at about 35 mph in overdrive, again at very low rpms. Where do I start to look??? I hate driving a truck that does not run right and can not be fixed until the check engine light comes on!
