I have a 99 Ford F150 4X4 Supercab 5.4V8 with 172,000 miles. Sometimes but not always my power windows will blow the 30amp fuse under the hood and the other day on a cold morning start up all the gauges on the dash went crazy, the speedmeter and the rpm gauge went all the way to the max and the engine shook a little but went away after just a minute or two.

I asked a question yesterday in why am I blowing fuses sometimes when I use my power windows and the fuse that blows is a 30 amp under the hood. You replyed by asking me to check for a bad ground wire. So now my question is where is the ground wire located at and what to look for when I locate it? If it is not a bad ground wire then what could be making the fuse blow under the hood sometimes when I use my power windows?

Remove the door panel and you will find the wiring going to the switches. Check for broken or skinned wiring. As far as other things, a common place for a short to exist is between the door and door frame. There is a rubber boot covering the wiring and things break under there. Finally, the motor could be drawing too many amps due to an internal short.
