1998 Ford F150 Starter motor

Just installed a new starter and the bendix does not disengage occassionally. I have had the starter motor continue to wind after the engine starts, and I have had the starter continue to turn the motor over even after removing the key. What's up?

check the starter solenoid. if replacing it make sure all connections are tight and battery is fully charged before trying to start it or youll ruin the new one
