1997 Ford F150 air bags

I have a 1997 ford F-150 2 wheel drive ,3rd door ,with a 4.6 with over 23600 miles .My air bag light comes on as I start the engine ,it flashes several times then stays on .I went to auto zone ,they said it wasn't reading anything on their machine .any ideas on what it could be .Thanks for any help and info .

most auto parts that scan your vehicle do not use a diagnostic scanner capable of testing the SRS (supplemental restraint system). first you will need to ensure that it was tested properly to retrieve any trouble codes from the SRS. if there are codes, repair those first . if there are no codes, you will have to perform following tests..
