1997 Ford F-150 4WD

The 4wd won't lock in inless you do it manualy I have replaced the vacuume ball on the axcle and the ones that the vacuume lines plugs imto on the farewall on the truck I hope you can help me are they any fuses or anything like that on this model for the 4wd the light comes on when you turn the egntion key but it does'nt when you pull the 4wd lever

Is there vacuum to the front axle? Also, I am assuming this is a manual shift 4wd and not the electric shift.

Yes it does have vacuum going to the axcle and it is a manuel shift I hope you can give me some ease of mind

If you are getting vacuum, the only thing I can think is the slide in the axle that engages the 4wd isn't moving. It may need taken apart, cleaned, and lubericated.
