1997 Ford F-150 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 189321 miles

hi i want to know about my truck when im driveing it it runs ok but when im at a stop it turns off and it smells strong like its burning gas please help.

Has the check engine light come on? HAve you checked fuel pump pressure? Is there any black smoke coming from the exhaust?
