1996 Ford F150 Oil level

Have replaced oil filter and put in 6 qts. of oil, purchased new dip stick and oil does not register on dip stick.
What am I missing?

If you put in 6 qts, it should register. Are you sure the dipstick is the right one? Is the dipstick tube still properly attached to the engine?
