The pick-up has a new rad, waterpump, thermostat, and antifreeze however the problem is that the heat gauge in the vehicle fluctuates on the cold side of the gauge. It will sometimes jump up to the normal temperature range and stay there but then returns to the low end of the gauge. I am wondering if the problem is the gauge in the dash or a sensor problem.

Seems like gauge is getting faulse readings. this can be caused by a faulty coolant temperature send unit or a faulty coolant temperature sensor. you should test the sensor first. if the sensor is OK then suspect a faulty coolant temp. send unit
