1994 Ford F150 oil pan gasket leak

My pan gasket is leaking. I received an estimate to replace of about 900.00. They would remove the motor, replace the pan gasket and the rear main seal at the same time. The main seal is not leaking, however. Can this job be done without the extreme cost quoted?

Yes. It can be done without removing the engine. However in order to remove the oil pan to replace the gasket, you would need to unbolt the engine mounts, loosen the trans mounts and jack the engine up 4 or 5 inches to clear the crossmember. Put on a new gasket, fish the oil pan back in, bolt it up, lower the engine and tighten up the mounts.

The rear main seal cannot be replaced this way, during this process. It is a LOT easier to replace the rear main seal by removing the engine.
