i first need to know what a neutral safety switch is and does second i have changed it and the bulbs but i cant get the back up lights to work what do i do

The neutral safety switch is designed to only allow the engine to start in park or neutral. It also is used to turn the back up lights on. Have you checked if there is any power to the sockets?
