1989 Ford F150 Transmission Issue

I have a 1989 Ford F150 Lariat XLT 4x4 that won't shift out of first. We have swapped out the transmission and its still won't shift. The 4x4 engages and everything else works, but it won't shift. Does anyone have any ideas? They would be greatly appreciated.

You may have considered these ideas, but I do not know what else you've tried so here are some suggestions based on what I don't know about the replacement.

Did you purchase a rebuilt unit, a good wrecker unit or have it sent out for overhaul? If any of these methods did not include an overhauled or new torque converter and the old one was reused as is, a lack of pressure could be the cause of the vehicle not moving.

Once in my youth, I did not bolt the torque converter to the flexplate and obviously had the same problem you are experiencing.

I know these probably sound too simple, so post back if these have been eliminated and I would be happy to come up with more.
